Irwindale, CA., 2007 Auto Club Late Models Recap- We had a great 2007 season with the help of a lot of people. Our biggest gains this year came from not just our setup, but our chassis. We added a new fabricated front clip from Racecar Factory and at the same time found that our chassis was quite tweaked. We also had some brake issues that we finally resolved. All in all we worked our way to the front and made great improvement.
Las Vegas, NV., 11/9 - 11/10 Late Models- This weekend we decided to head down to the famous Las Vegas Bullring. Being that this was the first time Lindsey has been on the Bullring in a Late Model, she had to get used to the track. On Friday the Late Models had practice, then heats, and then the "B" main. Lindsey was doing very well the whole time and kept improving her times. When it came to qualifying they had groups of four go out and set their times. There were so many cars at the track that not everyone would be able to race in the main. To have a guaranteed spot in the "A" main, you had to qualify 22nd or better. Everyone else had to run heats and the high finishers transferred to the "B" main. Then the top four in the "B" main transferred to the "A" main. When qualifying was over Lindsey ended up qualifying 8th out of 44 cars. On Saturday the Late Models got some practice and then it was time for the main event. In the main Lindsey was running 8th and holding her own. Then on one of the restarts Lindsey got under the car in front of her and finished her pass going into turn three. Lindsey was running in 7th place the rest of the time. Later on there was a wreck and when they were coming to the restart there was a train reaction and Lindsey slammed into the car in front of her. So the yellow came back out. Lindsey's hood was up in the air and she couldn't see in front of her. So she came in and her crew ripped off everything they could and sent her back out there. Once Lindsey was out there she noticed that her water temperature wasn't going down, but instead kept getting hotter and hotter. The motor was overheating so Lindsey decided to come in and park the car for the night. Once she came in they noticed that everything was crushed in in the front and the radiator wasn't able to get air. Lindsey ended up completing only 42 laps and finished 23rd out of 26. Though the #09 Late Model didn't finish very well, everyone knows that they did really well, and everyone had a fun time.
*Out of more than 200 applicants, Lindsey was one of twenty-four to attend the fifth annual Drive for Diversity Combine at South Boston Speedway, Virginia. You can check out her ABC 13 interview at: http://www.wset.com/news/stories/1007/464453.html
Irwindale, CA., 9/15/07 Auto Club Late Models- We made Irwindale history today! Lindsey was pretty fast all day, but we knew the car would be better once it cooled off outside. Lindsey qualified 4th out of 24 cars, which is the first time a female has ever qualified in the top 5 in Late Models at Irwindale. In the main Lindsey was running in fifth and the car behind her was trying to pass her, but he was only faster going in and Lindsey was faster coming out. So after trying so many times, it seems that he finally got fed up or just pushed the car too hard. When coming out of turn two he just slammed into Lindsey's left rear spinning her around. Lindsey went toward the middle of the track and kept the car out of harms way. They already threw the yellow so Lindsey caught up with the group. Once the track was green Lindsey could tell that the hit changed the handling a lot. Lindsey was in about 12th place when a yellow came out. When they were coming around for the restart Lindsey went to get on the gas and the car wouldn't go, it just popped intensely. So Lindsey pulled to the side hoping it would clear up, but it didn't, so she pulled to the infield and Lindsey was done for the night. Irwindale, CA., 9/1/07 Auto Club Late Models- At last, today was a good day. Lindsey was fast all day, she was third fastest in the first practice and second fastest in the second practice. When qualifying came she qualified 6th out of 27 cars. So she started first in the trophy dash and finished 3rd. In the main Lindsey was battling for 7th with one car for most of the race and he finally got by her. Then on the last few laps, Lindsey caught a car and she almost had him on the last lap, but didn't get him by 0.042 of a second. So Lindsey ended up finishing 8th. Irwindale, CA., 8/18/07 Auto Club Late Models- We were just doing OK all day. Lindsey qualified 12th out of 28 cars. In the main the car wasn't fast at first, so Lindsey ended up getting stuck on the bottom and lost two positions. The rest of the race Lindsey just stayed where she was, until the last five laps. All of a sudden Lindsey just started catching everyone in front of her, including the leaders. The last couple of laps Lindsey was challenging the car in front of her, but wasn't able to get them before the checkered flag came out, making Lindsey finish 14th. Irwindale, CA., 8/4/07 Auto Club Late Models- All weekend we were struggling with the car and motor. We kept having to change carburetors because there was something wrong with all of them and we could not find a setup that worked. The carburetor that we ended up using for the night had no power off the turn. So Lindsey qualified 17th out of 27 cars. In the main Lindsey was moving up and on lap twenty-three she got caught up in a wreck and wasn't able to keep going. Irwindale, CA., 7/21/07 Auto Club Late Models- The whole day didn't go very well. We found some things wrong with the engine, but didn't discover it until after qualifying, and also found that the chassis is bent. Lindsey qualified 25th out of 30 cars. In the main the car pushed like crazy, just like every other main. Lindsey held on again and finished 17th. Irwindale, CA., 7/4/07 Auto Club Late Models- This Wednesday was an unusual day to race and they did things a little differently than usual. The car wasn't good or bad all day so Lindsey qualified 19th. Then the cars were impounded on the third-mile track so we weren't allowed to make any adjustments. Well for some reason we had the car setup for qualifying and not the race. So in the main Lindsey just had to hold on. Considering we were already tight during the day and the track got even tighter at night. Lindsey still ended up finishing 15th out of 34 cars. Irwindale, CA., 6/23/07 Auto Club Late Models- This week's race was a whole different experience. Considering we just lost our car owner and had to buy the car, and lost our three main crew members; two permanently, and one temporarily, and were on last week's tires, we did pretty well. For qualifying we messed up on the setup and Lindsey qualified 19th out of 29 cars. Throughout the main Lindsey was running the lower line going three wide lap after lap and passing car after car. Lindsey ended up finishing 11th. Irwindale, CA., 6/9/07 Auto Club Late Models- Today was a good race day. Lindsey was pretty fast during the day; she was third fastest in the first practice. We made some adjustments for qualifying and went too far. She ended up qualifying 11th out of 28 cars. Lindsey was doing very well throughout the race until the end where she got caught behind a slower car and was freight trained. So Lindsey finished 7th place. Irwindale, CA., 6/2/07 Auto Club Late Models-The weekend started off bad, but it turned out to be a good weekend. We were working on the car all day and we just could not get the car right. Lindsey ended up qualifying 25th out of 33 cars. In the main Lindsey was passing car after car. Lindsey passed seventeen cars by the checkered flag making her finish 8th. Irwindale, CA., 5/19/07 Auto Club Late Models- We were struggling with the car the whole day and couldn't get it right, to find out we had a bad shock. So Lindsey qualified 19th. Lindsey was trying to pass the same car for a long time until she finally got him with four laps to go. Lindsey ended up finishing 16th out of 30 cars. Irwindale, CA., 5/12/07 Auto Club Late Models- Today was an OK day, the car wasn't handling well and we couldn't figure it out. So Lindsey qualified 10th out of 33 cars. Lindsey stayed about the same place most of the race until the end when one car passed her so she finished 11th. Irwindale, CA., 4/28/07 Auto Club Late Models- Another successful race in the Racecar Factory Chevy Monte Carlo. We went out for the first practice and came to find that Lindsey's transponder wasn't working. So we put down some times on our stop watches and then came in. We got another transponder that worked and looked at the board. If Lindsey's transponder had worked her time would have put her between second and fourth place. In the second practice Lindsey was fourth fastest and she ended up qualifying 9th out of 32 cars. Lindsey got a good start and stayed there for a little bit. Then she started challenging the car in front of her until she got him, and then the yellow flag came out so she had to give it back. During the race the farthest up Lindsey was was seventh and the farthest back she was was thirteenth. Lindsey made it back up to ninth and ended up finishing 8th. Irwindale, CA., 3/31/07 Auto Club Late Models- The second race of the year was a success. Since we were still trying to get the car back to where it was before last week's wreck, we didn't qualify very well. Lindsey qualified 22nd out of 36 cars. In the main Lindsey got stuck on the outside and fell back to about 26th place. Then she was finally able to go low and she started picking them off one by one. When the checkered flag flew Lindsey was in 15th place. Irwindale, CA., 3/24/07 Auto Club Late Models- Today was the first race of the year at Irwindale. Forty cars showed up for the race and in the second practice, Lindsey was fourth fastest. When it came to qualifying the team loosened the car and it ended up being too much. She ended up qualifying 13th of 40 and started on the inside of row seven. Around lap twelve Lindsey was in about 12th place and two cars were battling it out in front of her. Coming out of turn four the inside car seemed to get loose and hit the car on the outside. The two cars started heading for the infield so Lindsey stayed high to get past them. Right then the two cars came back up to the wall and slammed into Lindsey. So Lindsey was done for the day.
Thank you: DAD, Team RA, Racecar Factory, the crew, the fans, and everyone else!!!!!!
